Created for a gallery titled "Uncommon Grain" at the American Whiskey Convention on April 3, 2020, the event was to honor and celebrate the legacy of Master Distiller Dick Stoll. Canceled due to COVID-19, Dick, who left us for the angel's share on August 13, 2020, never got to see the exhibit. Photographed on September 3 and 7, 2019, along with many helping hands, Dick Stoll and Erik Wolfe mashed and distilled a few hundred pounds of the revived Rosen rye for the first time in decades, since Dick used the grain at the original Michter's Distillery in Schaefferstown, PA.Invited as a guest to attend the distillation, I decided to photograph the historic event for posterity. On the morning of the mash, as I was about to leave home, I pulled half a dozen rolls of Kodak TRI-X 35mm black and white film out of the freezer to honor the moment in a timeless medium. A select image taken with a Nikon D4 DSLR is noted. You can read more about Dick's life in a beautiful piece written by Sam Komlenic of Whiskey Advocate, and in my monthly column in Lancaster County Magazine, Foodographer. A heartfelt thanks to Erik, Avi, Elaine, and Dick, for inviting me to join you on this wonderful journey......#stollandwolfe #distillery #distilling #rosenrye #ryewhiskey #pennsylvaniaryewhiskey #lititz #lititzpa #lancasterpa #lancastercounty #lancaster #whiskey #dickstoll #fineart #film #kodak #trix #kodaktrix #smallbatch #craftdistillery
